Review Drive Hard (2014)

Cast & Crew:
Director: Brian Trenchard-Smith Writer: Chad Law, Evan Law

Stars: John Cusack, Thomas Jane, Zoe Ventoura

Genres: Action | Comedy | Crime

Runtime: 92 min

Synopsis: The movie revolves around two people, a hostage taker who wants to rob a bank and a hostage who is forced to use his experience as former car racer to help out the execution of the plan.

Peter Roberts is a former car racer who has now living a life as a car race instructor. He is abducted by Simon Keller who is a criminal planning to rob a bank and needs Peter's expertise as part of his plan. He kidnaps Peter and forces him to join in the robbery which ends up in a situation that no one expected. While cops and the mob following their trails, they both need to cooperate and find a way out of this grave trouble.

The concept is interesting but there are flaws in the execution. Although the comedy and suspense keep the interest alive but still the movie sets all the burden on the two central characters. Director Brian Trenchard-Smith is not new in this field and has already directed the likes of BMX Bandits and Night of the Demons 2. But he doesn't have any great movie on his credit. Drive Hard is again the same sort of average movie that keeps faltering but still managing to remain interesting for 92 minutes.

The title hints at a lot of car racing scenes with all the damages and destruction attached to this sort of movies. But we can't see so much of car racing scenes and this is a big flaw. However there are a lot of moments where comedy scenes will make you laugh in full throat. This is more like a comedy than an action movie. You should not expect it to be something like Fast & Furious. This is not that great with regard to action but still it is worth watching.
